The Department

The Kinesiology & Health Sciences department is part of the School of Applied Science & Technology and is located in the main campus building in Grande Prairie. Within the department we offer a Kinesiology Diploma, Bachelor of Kinesiology (UT), and Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (UT).

The Role

The Departments of Kinesiology & Health Sciences and Education require a Part Time Sessional Instructor to teach PE2930 Movement Activities for Children from January 4, 2027 to April 30, 2027 to the Bachelor of Education Fort Vermillion cohort. Instructional duties will be fulfilled in the Fort Vermillion, AB region.

This course is a study of the free play and organized physical activities of school aged children in recreational, educational, and sport environments with an emphasis on physical literacy. Students will engage in practical physical activity and the observation of children.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will hold a Masters degree (preferred) in Kinesiology or Education with at least one graduate course in the specific curricular subject area or leadership experience in the subject area at the K-6 level in a school district. Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:

• Demonstrated success in instruction of movement activities to children in grades K-6.
• Knowledge of teaching in northern Alberta school environments is an asset.
• Application of different instructional strategies to meet the needs of students with different learning styles.
• Knowledge of Northwestern Polytechnic courses and current educational technologies commonly found in classrooms (e.g., videoconferencing, D2L) are desired.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Willingness to work with the Teaching & Learning Centre.
• Student focused.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A high level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across the organization and community.
